4. Firstaid Measures
a) Inhalation:
Remove to fresh air and rest. Give nothing by mouth. Get prompt medical attention.
b) Eyes:
Irrigate with water for at least fifteen minutes. If irritation persists then consult a doctor.
c) Skin:
Remove clothing and wash contaminated area with plenty of water. Wash with soap/cleanser and
rinse with plenty of water. If irritation persists obtain medical attention.
d) Ingestion:
If conscious, give water to drink. Seek medical attention immediately. Do not induce vomiting.
5. Firefighting
a) Suitable Extinguishers:
Carbon Dioxide (C02), Alcohol Resistant Foam, Foam, Dry Powder, Fluroprotein Foam (fp).
Inert Material Sand, Earth, etc. NOTE Halons harm the environment and should not be used
unless unavoidable.
b) Unsuitable Extinguishers
Do not use water.
c) Hazardous Decomposition:
Oxides of Carbon. May decompose to form Sulphur Oxides.
d) Special Procedures:
Use approved selfcontained breathing apparatus. Use water spray to cool containers. Prevent
runoff from fire control from entering waterways.
6. Accidental Release Measures
a) Exposure Controls:
Eliminate all sources of ignition. Evacuate area. Do not allow spill to enter drains and
watercourses. Ventilate area.
b) Personal Protection:
Wear suitable protective clothing: See Section 8.
c) Disposal Considerations..
Absorb in inert material such as sand or absorbent granules. Scoop up and place in container to
await transfer. Dispose of in accordance with Special Waste Regulations 1996.
7. Handling and Storage
a) Handling:
Avoid inhalation of vapour. Wear suitable protective clothing. See Section 8. Ensure adequate
ventilation. Avoid sources of ignition. Avoid skin contact. Avoid eye contact. Use local
extraction equipment where possible. Keep away from heat.
b) Storage:
Store in tightly closed labelled containers. Store in cool, dry, well ventilated area, off the ground.
Avoid extremes of temperatures. Store away from oxidising materials. Store away from
flammable materials. Store away from ignition sources. Store away from acids and alkalis/strong
bases.
8. Exposure Controls
Occupational Exposure Limit:
OES: Methanol, 200 ppm; Ethanol, 1000 ppm (8 hr TWA)
Biological Exposure Limit:
Not listed.
a) Inhalation:
Use in well ventilated areas.
b) Skin:
Avoid skin contact. Wear impervious gloves.
c) Eyes:
Wear suitable eye protection such as BSEN166 Chemical Grade. Use eyewash after eye contact.
d) Protection:
Use a suitable respirator when OEL is likely to be exceeded Filter Type A.
