Doorkit Test Information
TEST REPORT:
An indicative half hour fire resistance test (BS476: Parts 20 and 22: 1987) was carried out to assess whether a traditional panelled softwood door, when coated with Aquafire FRC Intumescent paint, would be improved to provide half hour fire resistance. The door selected for the test, estimated to be about 100 years old, was constructed of Pine with panels having a minimum thickness of 10 mm and stiles of 47 mm. Originating from a salvage yard in Edinburgh the door was typical of those that often require upgrading or replacing during the refurbishment and modernisation of older buildings. The door was rubbed down, the beads made sound and then coated with 315 microns dry film thickness (DFT) of Aquafire FRC Basecoat, 60 microns DFT of Aquafire FRC Topcoat
The test was carried out in front of independent observers. Details of the test are available on request.
During the fire test the door achieved a 30 minute Integrity rating.

THE TEST INDICATES THAT A TRADITIONAL PANELLED DOOR TREATED WITH AQUAFIRE FRC CAN MEET THE FD30 REQUIREMENTS
OF THE BUILDING REGULATIONS
AND
The requirements recommended by the
Mandatory Licensing of Houses in
Multiple Occupation.
(HMO's)

NOTE. While the application of Aquafire will enhance the fire performance, as circumstances will vary in every application where upgrading by coating could be considered, this Information is provided for guidance only. It is recommended that full consultation is made with the regulating authorities or a fire consultant to ensure acceptability.

NOTE: Circumstances will vary from building to building and doorset to doorset. It is important therefore to look at each case individually when assessing the potential for upgrading. If upgrading with an intumescent coating is acceptable to the regulating authorities, assess whether each existing door and frame under consideration is suitable. This will depend not only on the design and materials used but also on all relevant aspects of the construction of the doorset.

When considering the suitability of each individual door ensure that:-
After removing the existing coating, the doorleaf is in good condition with no gaps, holes or loose joints.
All panels are sound.
The door fits correctly In the frame.
